The Butte College forensics team competed in the Northern California Regional Championship tournament on Saturday and Sunday, March 6 and 7. 10 students Represented Butte College in eight different events including speech, oral interpretation as well as debate.
The event was held virtually, as all forensics events have been for the fall and spring semesters since the start of COVID-19.
In the competition, eight members of the Butte College team took home awards including Jesse Bracisco who took second place in public debate, Vanessa Flournoy third in public debate, Ken Catlin third in persuasive speaking and Lourdes Knowles fourth in persuasive speaking. Bracisco also received recognition as the fifth best speaker in the tournament.
In the oral interpretation category, MeritGrace Schmid won an award as the top novice and Rusty McAlister won top novice in poetry interpretation. Carly Jarvis was a finalist in prose interpretation, Cecelia Lore Ramsey in impromptu speaking and Schmid was a finalist in oral interpretation.
Butte College forensics team will be competing in the Community College State Championship tournament on March 13 and 14.
